At IDFA we're looking for a Web Editor to join our team.

IDFA is the world’s leading institution dedicated to the art and industry of documentary film and new media. Each November, IDFA presents documentary films and new media projects to around 300.000 visitors. IDFA also organizes activities for professionals that attract around 3.000 international guests.

As a Web Editor you are, together with 2 (senior) editors, responsible for updating, publishing and optimising the digital channels at IDFA such as the website, newsletters and social media. You write and publish texts, monitor the planning and initiate new ideas. You feel at home in the central role; you know all departments within IDFA and know how to realize communication productions independently.

As a Web Editor, you work 1 day a week from June building up to 5 days from mid August to December in the Communication and Marketing department together with the senior Editors, the Coordinator and Online Marketeer, under the ultimate responsibility of the head of Marketing & Communication. In the run-up to the festival, the department is reinforced annually with temporary staff, such as Press Officers, trainees and freelancers. Within editorial productions, you act as Project Manager towards colleagues.

Scope of work

  • You write, save, plan and publish articles, news stories, and texts for the website, mailings and social media;
  • You create a social media calendar for the festival, coordinate it with other departments and monitor deadlines;
  • You manage the topicality and accuracy of the posted content and channels, making sure they are relevant and in the right tone of voice according to a style guide;
  • You develop ideas for online expressions, in consultation with the head and the department of marketing and communication.

Required skills

  • Perfect mastering of the English language;
  • Knowledge of films, documentaries and the film industry;
  • A relevant completed education at HBO or WO level in Communication, Journalism or Film/New Media;
  • At least 3 years of work experience writing for websites, social media and editorial (advisory) work knowledge and insight into social media;
  • Basic knowledge of web guidelines, accessibility (usability)and statistics;
  • Knowledge of and experience in setting up and running social media campaigns;
  • You work accurately: you carry out activities in full and in time;
  • Knowledge of MailChimp, CMS and graphic programs such as Photoshop are preferable.

What do we offer?

  • A contractor agreement;
  • The possibility to be paid via a payroll agency if you are not a contractor;
  • Working hours: August 30,4 hours per week. In the period September to November, the position is full-time (38 hours per week). After the festival a couple of days to finish and handover the work;
  • Travel expenses within the Netherlands are covered if you live outside of Amsterdam.
