About IDFA Industry
IDFA is an international documentary institute, hosting an annual festival in November with 300+ films and an extensive industry program.  Our Industry Team runs events and services aimed at film professionals who come to Amsterdam during the festival to network, gain insides in the documentary ecosystem, do business and find new partners. 

As an intern you would get insight into the research and planning involved in the full range of industry activities run by IDFA, including:  

IDFA Forum - Where filmmaking teams come to find financing and production partners for films they are developing.  

Docs for Sale - IDFA’s market for completed films looking to distribute and sell their films.  

Industry program - During the festival, the Industry Team also delivers a series of talks and sessions and hosts international delegations at the festival.   

Guest services – the team that makes sure that our 3000 professional guests attending the festival every year have the best possible visit.  

About the role
Join our dynamic Industry Team as an intern to gain hands-on experience in the documentary film industry. You’ll support preparations for the November 2026 festival while assisting with year-round activities. This role offers insight into film financing, distribution markets, event programming, and international guest services. 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Conduct research on documentary projects in development and track industry trends. 

  • Manage administrative tasks using different project management tools.

  • Respond to inquiries via email for IDFA Forum and Docs for Sale. 

  • Assist the Guest services team in enhancing the festival experience for 3,000+ attendees. 

  • Take minutes at meetings and contribute to team discussions. 

Who you are

  • A film enthusiast with a passion for documentaries and curiosity about the industry. 

  • A student nearing graduation (film/media studies preferred) seeking practical experience. Please note: You must be officially enrolled as a student and have a valid student ID to be eligible for this internship.

  • A strong communicator fluent in English (written and spoken); Dutch is a plus. 

  • Organized and tech-savvy, able to quickly adapt to new software. 

  • A team player with initiative, comfortable in an office environment. 

  • Eligible to intern in the Netherlands: Non-EU candidates must secure their own student permit and be enrolled at a Dutch university/HBO. 

What we offer

  • Part-time role: 4 days/week (32 hours) with flexible start/end dates (April–July 2026). 

  • Compensation: €300 monthly stipend + covered travel costs within the Netherlands (if outside Amsterdam).
