International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA) is the leading institute for the art of documentary film and new media. Every November, IDFA’s festival welcomes some 295,000 visits and 3,000 professionals to Amsterdam for a trend-setting program.
Beyond the festival, IDFA propels the industry forward with the markets IDFA Forum and Docs for Sale and supports filmmakers through the IDFA Bertha Fund and talent development programs. The organization consists of approximately 50 employees throughout the year. In the months leading up to the festival, the workforce doubles with temporary employees and interns.
Our Industry Team runs events and services aimed at film professionals who come to Amsterdam during the festival to network, gain insights into the documentary ecosystem, do business and find new partners.
To strengthen our Industry team, we are looking for a Coordinator Industry.
What will you do?
As Coordinator Industry, you play a central role in supporting the operational planning and delivery of IDFA’s Industry program (Forum, Docs for Sale, Industry Talks, and Delegations and Guest Services. You help ensure that processes, logistics, and on-site activities are well organized and executed smoothly throughout the year, with peak intensity during the festival period.
Your responsibilities include:
Supporting the planning of the Industry program schedule (Forum, Docs for Sale, and Industry Talks) and coordinating its practical execution;
Collaborating with the Production team on production planning and logistics;
Managing and optimizing Industry data and scouting systems, supporting data analysis and internal reporting;
Overseeing production requirements (catering, furniture, volunteers, and signage) in collaboration with seasonal production staff;
Supporting the organization and tracking of the entry and selection process for Forum and Docs for Sale, including systems and internal selection meetings;
Day-to-day guidance of the temporary market producers;
Acting as a central operational contact during the festival period and helping to ensure activities run smoothly;
Updating and maintaining Industry website pages and digital tools;
Occasionally representing the Industry department at selected festivals or markets
You work closely with colleagues from Program, Production, IT and Communications. During the festival period, you thrive in a dynamic environment and keep an overview, even under pressure.
Who are you?
You have strong organizational and planning skills, and are comfortable managing multiple workflows simultaneously;
You work accurately and keep an overview, and are able to prioritize in a dynamic environment;
You are proactive and solution-oriented, and are comfortable taking initiative within defined frameworks;
You are comfortable working with digital systems and databases;
You have an excellent command of English (Dutch is a plus);
You are available full-time during the festival period.(July–November peak);
Experience in film, cultural events or the creative industry is an advantage.
What do we offer?
Contract and working hours
This is a one-year contract starting on May 1, 2026 (in consultation).
Full-time (five days per week) from May through December 2026;
Part-time (two days per week) in January and February 2027;
Part-time (three days per week) in March 2027;
Part-time (four days per week) in April 2027.
Salary
The Coordinator Industry position is classified in scale 6 of our generic job classification system. The salary range is set at €3.077,00 - 3.644,00 gross per month for full-time (38 hours per week) employment, excluding 8% holiday pay.
An annual salary increment is granted based on satisfactory performance.
Leave and holidays
You are entitled to 25 vacation days based on full-time employment;
The office is closed for five working days between Christmas and New Year’s Eve;
In addition, you receive a maximum of five extra compensation days, which must be taken before 1 February of the following year in consultation with your manager.
Working conditions and benefits
Hybrid working: flexibility to alternate between working from home and from the office;
A solid pension scheme (employee contribution 25%, employer contribution 75%);
Travel expenses within the Netherlands are reimbursed if you live outside Amsterdam;
Lunch is provided on the days you work at the office.
Residence permit
Unfortunately, IDFA cannot offer assistance or financial support for obtaining a residence permit.
